Being out on the land for multiple days with a group of hard working teenagers means bringing quite a bit of food, and preparing healthy meals is another opportunity for the group to learn and work as a team.
This year, the Kuujjuaq community kitchen, Quebec en forme and Alain Ishaac, the CLSC nutritionist, are all making it happen. After three workshops on healthy eating and the impact of food on sport performance, the participants started cooking for the expedition. The frigid temperatures pose the biggest challenge to food preparation. Everything freezes, which means no fresh food allowed! Students have been dedicated, though. They cook delicious meals and then freeze them up for the April adventure. From beef stew to granola bars and omelets, it will all be fuel for the expedition ahead!
